Often times questions arrive over the amount of a payout or why you received a certain payout. The most common reason a payout may seem different is due to wagering a different amount than the payoff is based on.
For example, if you play $1 to win on a horse and look on our site at the results, you may think you will get paid that amount. The industry standard for a win, place, or show payout is per $2.00. If no amount is listed for the base wager, it will be this amount. In these cases, you will receive 1/2 of the payout since your $1 was 1/2 of $2.
Normally Exactas, Trifectas, Superfectas, and Pick wagers have a base amount listed prior to the winning runners and amount paid. For example: $1 ex 4,5 $24.50
If you receive less than the track payout, this can be caused by state taxes if you live in Illinois. Normally the host track covers this amount in the "breakage" (pennies left over after the track rounds off the payment). Sometimes there is not enough left over and the track doesn't have enough in that breakage to pay the tax for everyone. These times you will see the few cents come off your winning wager.
Scratches can also effect the way you get paid, especially with a late scratch. To see how the host track handles these, click here: https://support.twinspires.com/hc/en-us/articles/360055113032-Scratches-Cancellations-Refunds-Ticket-Changes-Dead-Heats-and-Wager-Disputes-FAQ
When making online wagers, it is also important that you double check your wagers to make sure they were placed and correct. You can double check the wagers by going to your bets or to your account history in either your browser or on the app.
